Cirencester Primary School

Information

Here at Cirencester Primary School we have a school council who we want the to be an effective body that represents all pupils, takes time to listen to all pupils, communicates pupil's views, feeds back to all pupils but overall makes things happen!

The school council is a group of 24 children (2 from each class in years 1 through to 6). The school council is split into two teams: the action team and the communication team. The action team focuses more on organising events and working on making changes that school council have discussed. The communication team focus more on communicating with their fellow pupils through assemblies, class meetings and the website. This allows all children, even those who are less confident, to be a part of school council.

Elections are fair and open, so that everyone is represented. At the start of the year all of the children have an opportunity to campaign to be one of the two school council representatives in their class. Children use a range of strategies such as speeches, posters and badges to try and persuade their classmates to vote for them. Then on voting day, all of children visit the polling station in the school library and vote for the people they would like to be their class representatives.

School council meet once a fortnight and are very committed to listening to their classmates and making changes around the school. The children are passionate about what they do and are always working on a new project or idea.
