World Book Day

BOOK IN A JAR COMPETITION - MARCH 2019

More than 100 pupils entered this competition by decorating a jar to represent a favourite book.  Pupils decorated and filled the jars with models, pictures, quotes from the book and even lights.  Well done to everyone who entered for your creativity and imagination.  All the jars are on display in the library.  Can you guess the books which they represent?  Which book would you choose and what would you put in your jar?

School Council had the tricky job of judging all the entries and chose one winner from each year group.  Well done to all 7 winners!

World Book Day - Thursday 7th March 2019

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils dressed up as book characters and brought in  favourite books to share. Pupils in Year 2 had a Roald Dahl theme.

Pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 also brought in favourite books to share and got lots of top recommendations for future reading.  It was great to welcome parents/ carers into classes to join in with reading in the afternoon.

AUTHOR VISIT - RACHEL DELAHAYE: Friday 8th March 2019

Children’s author, Rachel Delahaye, held a whole school assembly about the magic of reading and storytelling, sharing her own passion for writing, which started as a young child. She also held creative writing workshops with pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6, working on developing ideas for stories and building characters using a range of props and pictures.  Rachel's enthusiasm and creativity is contagious and the pupils all went away with amazing ideas for writing!  These will be built on back in class with all the children.

Copies of Rachel's books are available to borrow from the school library.
