We held a series of events throughout school to celebrate reading. Parents and carers joined their children in reading lessons and found out more about how we teach reading, the resources available and how to support reading at home.
On Friday afternoon we held a Read With the Teacher session where the children enjoyed being told stories by different members of staff. During this period, you would hardly have known there was anyone in the school as there was a hush while everyone enjoyed a story or two.
Children in KS1 were treated to a visit from The Fairy Queen of Bookland - she can often be spotted somewhere else in Cirencester that has a strong connection with books and reading!
Great Bookish Bake-Off
A large number of parents, carers and friends joined us for a secondhand book sale and cake sale at the end of the day.
There were lots of fantastic entries for the Great Bookish Bake-Off competition and these delicious, eye-catching treats were snapped up as raffle prizes.
Lisa from Cirencester Library had the difficult task of choosing three winners of the competition. The book-themed cakes were truly inspired - thank you to everyone who made entries or baked and donated cakes for the cake sale. We raised over £400 which will be used to purchase books for the use and benefit of all our pupils.
