Sticky Knowledge
At Cirencester Primary School, we believe that children retaining what they learn in school is extremely important because it helps them build a strong foundation for future education and everyday life. When students remember and understand lessons, they are better able to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. Retaining knowledge also boosts confidence and allows children to apply what they learn to new situations, helping them succeed both academically and personally as they grow.
To help support pupils to retain learning, teachers and subject leaders have identified 'Sticky knowledge' for each foundation subject. This 'sticky knowledge' is the key knowledge and skills which are essential for pupils to transfer into their long-term memories. This is shared with parents and pupils at the beginning of each half term and referred to regularly within lessons.
To support pupils in retaining this key information, teachers will provide pupils with regular opportunities (explained in the diagram below) to revisit and recall this key information at different points in time.
